Your support coordinator isn’t working out. Maybe they don’t respond to calls or aren’t finding the help you need. Whatever the reason—you’re allowed to change.
First: You Have the Right to Change
The NDIS is built on “choice and control.” You don’t need permission from the NDIS, and you don’t need to justify it to your current coordinator.
Step 1: Check Your Service Agreement
Look at your service agreement for the notice period (usually 1-4 weeks) and how to end the agreement (usually written notice).
Step 2: Find a New Support Coordinator
Start looking BEFORE you end things with the current one. Ask for recommendations, use the NDIS Provider Finder, or ask your LAC.
Step 3: Request a Handover
Your current coordinator should provide a handover including progress summary, what’s been set up, budget information, and key contacts.
Signs It’s Time to Change
- They don’t return calls or emails for days
- You feel unheard or dismissed
- They push you toward their organisation’s other services
- Nothing seems to get done
- You don’t trust them
“Not a good fit” is enough. You don’t need a dramatic reason.
Why Independent Matters
Many coordinators work for large organisations with other NDIS services. An independent support coordinator doesn’t have that conflict—they focus solely on what’s best for YOU.
